Blocks are the first stage of marble processing, and consequently of its marketing, with regard to the product extracted from the quarry. These are huge parallelepipeds of pure Orosei marble that can weigh up to 34 tons; products which are only limited by the possibilities for their handling and future processing.

The universally recognized maximum dimensions are 320 cm long x 200 cm high x 200 cm wide. Their production is dependent on the heavy use of mechanized labor and expert human resources (with experience in the order of tens of years). The final value of a block is dependent on the selection made in the quarry regarding its production.

A large block (+ 20 t) with an uncommon uniformity of colour, and without any physical defect that might compromise its workability and thus revenue by weight of the finished products that can be derived from it, will be classed as “extra“.

First choice blocks will be uniform blocks that have some variation in colour or small physical defects which are negligible when it is transformed into secondary and semi-finished products.

Commercial or second choice blocks will be parallelepiped blocks with chromatic variations and / or physical defects.

The last category is that of unshaped blocks, actually “block pieces” which, due to causes linked to the production of the deposit, cannot be squared off and used for the production of slabs. These blocks are used in sawmills to directly obtain flooring, wall coverings and other semi-finished products.
